Patrick Busby - Contracting
Patrick completed his Civil Engineering degree while working for Golding Contractors & QMAG. Patrick also worked for the Rockhampton City Council as a Works Engineer. While in these positions, Patrick had extensive experience in a wide range of engineering specialisations, including Mine Rehabilitation, duplication of the Railway lines for Queensland Rail, construction of dams and tailings dams, construction of a flying fox for Ensham Mine, levee banks, fuel facilities and workshops.
Additionally, Patrick has experience in managing the mining of phosphate, project management on numerous sites and situations, quality assurance, workplace health and safety, and tendering processes. After 12 years in the employ of others, Patrick branched out on his own with the purchase of a business with his brother Ray. Patrick subsequently started Busby Contractors and began managing projects throughout Central Queensland.
Kevin Surman - Contracting
Kevin’s professional career started in surveying; commencing as a cadet surveyor and subsequently as an engineering surveyor in Brisbane. He then took on a position as engineering surveyor with a major Central Queensland Civil Contracting Company for 7 years before taking on the role of Project Manager with them for a further 12 years.
Kevin has since worked with Tambo and Bulloo Shire Councils, the Rockhampton City Council, and Streeters Earthmoving. Kevin has a wealth of experience in all aspects of civil engineering ranging from earthwork foundations, mine management, construction of culverts, golf courses, haul roads, and subdivisions, earth dams and levee banks to name but a few examples.
Don Stephen - Contracting
With 25 years contracting experience in the Construction and Mining Industry Don has a wealth of multi-discipline contracting experience in both mining and civil projects. Past roles have included surveyor, computer administration, estimating, Project Manager and with the last 12 years as Construction and Operations Manager.
As Mining Manager for a number of major contractors Don has gained much experience in the mining industry ranging from streamlining mining operations to providing a quality service to Clients.
Raymond Busby - Transport
Ray began his career in the property industry then travelled overseas working in transport and logistics. He returned and worked in the coal mining industry for 10 years as a plant operator/OCE.
His passion for transport and logistics saw him move back to Rockhampton in 2004, to co-found Busby Transport with his brother Patrick. Ray’s talent in managing people and good utilisation of the trucks has seen this business grow from strength to strength.
His approach to new transport opportunities and innovative ideas has lead to positive and improved business growth for the Group. This includes a fully remote and mine compliant fleet, driver training and development such as Certificate III in Transport and Distribution (Dangerous Goods) for the drivers and management, pioneering of the first twin steer tri-axle tilt trailer, investigating satellite tracking systems for fleet logistics and customer and client relations and the introduction of the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS).
Michael Busby - House Removals
Michael completed a Bachelor of Business Degree majoring in property Valuation. From 1991 through to January 2006 Michael owned and operated John Logan and Associates Valuation firm in Rockhampton. During this time Michael has valued throughout Central Queensland specialising in all forms of residential, commercial and rural valuations.
In 2006, Michael joined the Busby Group with the purchase of Busby House Removals. Michael is a registered valuer and member of the Australian Property Institute.
Ron Busby - Commercial Manager
Ron commenced his career as a Cadet Underground and Open-Cut Mine Surveyor with Kianga Coal Company, a subsidiary of Theiss Peadbody Mitsui, Moura. He later moved into Cadastral and Engineering Surveying and Project Management. Following his involvement in the mining and construction industries he had a career change into the property industry ultimately qualifying in Land Economics. Ron held Senior Executive roles in Real Estate and as a Property Development Consultant in Brisbane.
Ron returned to Rockhampton to manage the Busby Group and to assist in its continuous business development and further expansion into the mining and associated industries. The Group has a selection of complimentary businesses and he will continue to help grow the business through expansion and acquisition.
